Acceptance into the NYSCAME All-County Ensembles is a high honor obtained only by the most talented and dedicated music ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ from across all of Suffolk County, which is perhaps the most competitive county in New York state when it comes to musical performance. As it is a prestigious festival, highly sought-after conductors from across the nation are selected to lead each ensemble. It is quite an honor for these ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ to work with such seasoned professionals.

The NYSCAME All-County Festival concert took place on Nov. 17 at Northport High ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ. The ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ had just three rehearsals during a week and a half to prepare for the event. The concert was a tremendous success due to the hard work of the ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ, their teachers, and their conductors. Sachem’s 21 participants are truly among the top student musicians in New York State.

Congratulations to these talented musicians on this impressive achievement!

Collage of Students thumbnail252330
Students at both Sachem High ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈs kicked off the season of giving by collecting turkeys and Thanksgiving dinner sides to donate to families in need.

Students at Sachem High ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ East assembled 400 boxes to donate to Sachem families. Each box was hand-checked for the 24 items needed to make a complete Thanksgiving dinner. Any extra items were donated to the Town of Brookhaven and Suffolk Independent Living Organization’s food pantry.

At Sachem High ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ North, ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ collected more than $4,000 and over 200 turkeys. They were able to provide more than 225 Sachem families with a full Thanksgiving dinner, along with hundreds of families in surrounding neighborhoods.

The ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ District is thankful for the generous amount of donations received to make the Thanksgiving a little brighter for local families in need.

student and faculty thumbnail252103

More than 70 carpentry ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ from Sachem High ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ East and Sachem High ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ North were provided exclusive access to tour the new Station Yards construction project at the Ronkonkoma Hub site on Nov. 14. The Hub is a redevelopment project to create a new downtown area with residential and commercial spaces near the Ronkonkoma LIRR station.

The visit was hosted by the TRITEC Real Estate Development Company, which provided ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ in attendance with T-shirts. Project managers gave ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ tours of all aspects of the project including new apartments, retail and dining spaces, outdoor common areas and parking facilities. Additionally, ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ were accompanied by Sachem teachers Mr. Byrne, Mr. Cifuni and Mr. Gustavsen who taught them about the various phases of construction taking place. Students got a firsthand look at these stages, along with several career pathways, which helped them connect the information they have learned through Sachem’s career training programs.

Students were engaged throughout the visit and are excited to see the completed project. This unique experience helped them connect classroom lessons to the real-world and promoted careers in construction among the younger generation.
