¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ

Many Sachem ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ learned all about Hispanic music as part of the district’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations. Elementary school counselor Justin Morales led interactive assemblies at several of the district’s elementary schools that recognized the importance of music in Hispanic culture and the contributions of many Latin American musicians.

Mr. Morales first introduced the art of salsa dancing and the instruments at the heart of salsa music. He then taught ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ about the impact of artists including Tito Puente, Selena, Gloria Estefan, Shakira and Enrique Iglesias. Students even learned the merengue dance and got up out of their seats to feel the rhythm.

Throughout the month of ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ, the ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ District is supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

On Oct. 6, Waverly Elementary ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ and staff dressed in pink and walked together as a symbol of solidarity for the cause. Parents and community members cheered ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ on as they held signs of support and walked the perimeter of the school’s field. The walk ended in the middle of the field where ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ and staff followed an outline to form a breast cancer awareness ribbon, which was captured from a drone above. Additionally, cosmetology ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ from Sachem High ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ North were on hand to put in pink hair extensions for staff and parents.

The event, which was organized by the Waverly PTA, brought together the school community while recognizing an important cause.
