¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ

Students and staff members across the ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ District recently honored those who have served in the U.S. military through lessons and activities.

Several elementary schools invited current and former service members to their buildings to be thanked and honored. Veterans who are family members of Sachem ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ gathered for breakfasts which were followed by a parade. Students lined the hallways and outside of their buildings with American flags and thank-you cards as the veterans walked through. Following the parade at Tamarac Elementary ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ, ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ presented candy donations to the Farmingville Fire Department to be sent to troops overseas.

Other buildings invited veterans to be guest speakers and share their experience in the military with ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ. At Chippewa Elementary ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ, fourth and fifth graders participated in a question-and-answer session with vets. Tamarac Elementary ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ invited Staff Sergeant Dawn Amato to the building. Amato served in the military for 22 years and now works as a bus driver in Sachem. Alongside her service dog Peaches, Amato shared her journey about how she joined the United States Army and served her country.

Through these interactive events and in-class lessons, ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ learned about the different branches of the military. They connected with local heroes and expressed gratitude for the sacrifices they have made.

¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ District ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ and staff are in the Halloween spirit! Ahead of Halloween, many elementary schools held “trunk-or-treat” events as a safe option for families to celebrate within their school communities. On Oct. 31, several buildings held parades for ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ to show off their costumes to friends and families. Celebrations continued across the district as ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ participated in Halloween-themed classroom activities including arts and crafts and even pumpkin picking.
